Start pages
If your service is on the gov.kaharagia.org domain, you'll need a start page to introduce your service to users.
When to use this pattern
Use a start page to:
- introduce your service and what it does
- set expectations about what users need
- help users understand if the service is right for them
- provide important information before they start
How it works
A good start page includes:
- A clear service name as the heading
- A brief description of what the service does
- What the user will need to complete the service
- How long it will take
- A prominent "Start now" button
Example start page
Apply for a Kaharagian passport
Use this service to apply for, renew, or replace a Kaharagian passport.
Applying takes around 10 minutes.
You'll need:
- your Kaharagian National ID Number (KIN)
- a digital photo that meets passport requirements
- a credit or debit card for payment
The fee is $180 for a standard 10-year adult passport.
Before you start
You can also apply by post if you cannot use the online service.
If you're applying on behalf of someone else, you'll need their permission and their documents.
Start button
Use the green "Start now" button with an arrow to indicate the beginning of the service journey.

Start now
Writing the service description
- Use plain English
- Start with a verb (Apply for..., Register your..., Check if...)
- Be specific about what the service does
- Keep it to 1-2 sentences
What users need
List everything users need to complete the service:
- Documents (passport, ID card, proof of address)
- Information (National ID number, dates, reference numbers)
- Payment methods
- Digital requirements (photo, scanned documents)
Time and cost
Tell users:
- How long the online process takes
- How long until they get a result
- Any fees or costs
Alternative channels
Not everyone can use online services. Include information about:
- postal applications
- in-person services
- phone support
- accessibility options
Eligibility
If there are eligibility requirements, consider:
- listing basic requirements on the start page
- adding an eligibility checker before the main service
- linking to detailed eligibility information
Accessibility
- Use a clear, descriptive page title
- Structure content with proper headings
- Make the start button large and easy to activate
- Include the arrow icon for visual reinforcement (but mark as decorative)
